Reuse the same color, order, or other visual encoding for the same referent across related views when the meaning stays the same. For example, keep the same line colors and item order in a main chart, inset, and small multiples, or keep section colors semantically aligned with their topic so a hue change signals a topic change rather than a silent remapping.
